We are in the process of exploring/procuring official certification as a cruelty-free company. However, Younique has not conducted an in-depth cruelty-free review tracing each ingredient back to such ingredient’s original source at this time.”
My overall point is this: When you make a claim as strong as “cruelty free” you are giving the consumers an ambiguous statement which in turn makes the claim and label meaningless. Idk what presenters you are talking to because in your article you said “Younique and all of its representatives are claiming it to be cruelty-free”. Now I find it hard to believe that you’ve spoken to all 200,000+ representatives to be able to make this statement accurate. I am a former Younique rep and I will gladly tell you the truth about this statement. Yes, there are plenty of reps that claim Younique is cruelty-free, but not even close to ALL reps claim this and I’ve seen multiple reps scold others for claiming this. Younique doesn’t test on animals, but nowhere on their website does it claim to be cruelty-free. In order to claim something is cruelty-free, you have to not only NOT test on animals, but you also have to be able to trace ALL ingredients to their origin and show that all of those were not tested on animals either, and you cannot claim cruelty-free without certification. Younique is not able to trace every ingredient, so therefore they cannot claim to be cruelty-free. That is the truth from a former Younique rep, who has never advertised Younique to be cruelty-free. So before you chastise an entire company, you should probably do your research because you end up looking silly and lose credibility when you make such a broad and FALSE claim. ThanksDo you have any documents or resources that back what you claim here Whitnee McGowan? As I have just left this company April 1, after finding all this out, and they still make the same lame claim that they are in process of becoming certified, and it’s basically the same story they have been touting for a long time. You can’t say it is vegan if it is not CF… and yes we can look at ingredients, but do not have the source of the ingredients to confirm they were not tested on animals… so do YOUR research.Hi Tammera! I am a proud presenter with Younique. I recently attended a corporate conference in Canada where the founders were questioned about acquiring a cruelty free certification. Their answer is that while becoming certified is among the top priorities, it is not “THE” top priority. The top priority for this company and the reason it was founded is to Uplift, Empower & Validate women all over the world. They give women the ability to support themselves & build their confidence all while focusing on the support & healing for women who are victims of childhood sexual abuse. Proceeds from these products fund many programs to help these victims including The Younique Foundation, The Defend Innocence Campaign & Safe Haven Retreat in Utah. There is nothing shameful about this companie’s purpose or practices I can assure you. I just wanted to put into perspective for you where Younique’s main priorities really lie.I’m really confused by your response here. The point of the article is not whether all Younique reps do or do not say that the brand is cruelty free. The point of the article is the lack of transparency from the website and email response from its head office. It is unclear if they are fully cruelty free and that us the point of the article. It’s irrelevent how many reps say it is or it isn’t, this does not change the fact that actually, no one apart from the big bosses really know.

Hey Jane! =) I’ve confirmed with Leaping Bunny and the process to getting certified does not take 2 years to be completed as the Younique rep claims. As long as the company provides all of the neccessary information and documents then they can be approved within one week! I’m not sure if the Younique rep meant that it will take their company 2 years to get all of that information and documents ready and if that’s the case, then Younique is still NOT cruelty-free because they haven’t verified with their ingredient suppliers that they don’t test on animals. I am a new comer to Younique, I love the make up I am 60 years old and have not worn make up for at least 30 years. I support the ethos behind the company empowering women who has gone who are going through any sort of abuse in their lives. I am a survivor of every kind of abuse. I have read what wonderful things this company does, I am still a little critical of just how this is supported, and how the funds are projected to these causes. I am now looking into the ethics behind the company, on animal rights. I am a little confused into which direction my energies should go. I have read the resources on your web page and they look amazing, is it the funding from the cosmetics that support these groups, or is it the empowerment of women who use your products, in a way that they are survivors and we will stand in the face of our abusers and say I am worth it.
I’m sure what you’re saying is true but it’s been a year and we haven’t seen any progress yet so I’m hoping things will change soon! =)

Younique as a corporation may be very convoluted on this issue. and they are definitely lacking transparency (it’s April 2016 now and nothing else has been done, they are still not registered with any organizations) – but that does NOT mean that all Younique presenters are misleading customers or making claims they can’t back up. I’m pretty certain you will not find a single official Younique corporate graphic anywhere that says Cruelty Free on it – they will have all been made by presenters who don’t know the difference.I was told the same when Younique first started nearly 2 years ago and they are still waiting on certification!
